Teenager Advocacy Programme

T.A.P Wraparound Programme

This programme combines cultural mentorship, education, and community engagement to support troubled youth and adults. We work closely with schools, correctional centres, and community organisations to reduce suspension and recidivism rates and empower individuals to reintegrate into society.

Process step 1

Assessment: During assessment, we introduce ourselves and the programme and learn more about the family through discussion and by using four assessment tools. We also spend time identifying and addressing any immediate safety concerns. Our assessment process empowers youth and families to express their needs, identify what resources and capacities they have that can assist them, and identify where there are gaps and how, in fact, we can help them help themselves. We also reach out to other important stakeholders in the family’s life to learn their perspective on the family’s needs and strengths.

Process step 2

Family Team: After the assessment process is completed, we form a family team that will assist them in developing their plan and achieving their goals. The team includes both formal supports, such as system and service representatives, as well as informal supports, such as extended family, friends, coaches, pastors, etc. We meet with each team member to learn about their perspective on the family's strengths and needs, as well as how they can assist. Everyone on the team has a role to play.

Process step 3

Plan Development: Following our meeting with the family team members, we create an individualised service plan, which we then share with all team members. This plan serves as the foundation for our work with the family. We frequently review and revise the plan to assess progress and incorporate any needs. We also develop a thorough safety plan during this time.
